Small Business Saturday to Small Business Saturday

As we begin Small Business Saturday tomorrow, I reflect on the past year as a business owner.

Last year, I was in a much different place in business than I am now. I had just started my business, was struggling to make sales, and fearful. I was fearful of the future, afraid of spending money I didn't have to create a product that wasn't sure to sell. I was running sales, practically giving things away, and I didn't know what the future would look like for my business. All I knew was that I am in college, needed money, and wanted to make a difference by being my own boss.

This year, instead of being entirely fearful of the future, I'm more hopeful and excited. I'm learning to enjoy each part of my life, rather than stressing about it. As I write this post, I'm snuggled up with my dog, in a fuzzy blanket at my lake house, watching a Christmas movie with my parents. I am so blessed. God has given me what I don't deserve. I'm thrilled to be living life in the way that I am.

This year, I am ecstatic to have added new faces to the team, partnered with new stores, and learned many lessons. We now have a more prevalent presence on social media, and more online sales. That online is something to celebrate. We have improved the quality of our pieces, launched more items, expanded our lines, and had all major holiday collections. WOW, God. That is all thanks to the big man upstairs. I am thankful, I am grateful, I am so stinkin' blessed.

It seems like at least once per week, I run into people I know who ask: how do you do it? What is it like? Can you run a business and go to college full-time? The answer is YES. You can run a business and go to school full-time. I do it literally every day. But how do I do it? God's grace. I am so lucky to have incredible, supportive parents who help me in every way. They have always encouraged me to chase my dreams and pursue all my passions. I can't believe I actually get to do that every day.

This Small Business Saturday, shop local. Support small businesses. Not because we love money or because we need it or because we want it, but because you are supporting someone else's dream. Everyone has a goal, a thing they'd like to do. If you're ever able to support that dream, do it.

As always, thank you for your love and support. I am oh-so-grateful for it.

XOXO, Madeline Keeling
