Why I decided to get lash extensions
Why I decided to get lash extensions...
And then get them removed.
It's been a while since I made a huge beauty decision: to get lash extensions! I got them because I loved the look of them on so many of my favorite bloggers and influencers, and thought I just had to have them too. I called one of the salons I had researched and been admiring for awhile, and scheduled an appointment. Click here to schedule an appointment!
So many people have confusion about what it means to get lash extensions and how the process works, so I'll start by explaining my own. I used Minky's brand synthetic lashes, which work really well. They hold up through rough sleep, intense water, and look gorgeous no matter how you wear them, whether that be with mascara or without. They're incredibly easy to rock because my makeup routine which used to take 20-30 minutes, is now reduced to about 5 minutes. I brush them, do my thang, and I'm out the door. What a miracle!
When I first got them, everyone I knew was confused. My natural lashes are about the same length as my extensions when I have mascara on, but I was tired of constantly having to apply and reapply, take it off, and spend so much time to do something so simple. So, I got the extensions and they worked great! However, they're not really vibing with me.
I still love them and the look of them, but I decided to cancel my fill-in this week because I want to lose them. I think that they don't really work for me much anymore because I miss the look of dark, voluminous lashes. I miss being able to determine my look by the length of my lashes. I miss being able to purchase my favorite mascaras and apply them daily. I miss being able to do my favorite face masks.
I'll give you a pro's and con's list of lash extensions:
2. They easily vamp up your look.
3. They can be adapted to be super long or shorter for more subtle occasions.
4. They make you feel super glam.

I'll give you a pro's and con's list of lash extensions:
Pro's:
1. Obviously, they reduce your makeup routine.2. They easily vamp up your look.
3. They can be adapted to be super long or shorter for more subtle occasions.
4. They make you feel super glam.
Con's:
1. You can only use oil-free products on them. (I have to wear goggles when I use anything not oil-free).
-face masks, face wash, eye makeup, and serums
2. You can't easily use mascara.
-to use mascara, it has to be by the same company you use for extensions because otherwise, it will make them fall out quicker
3. They can be annoying when they shed too quickly or look super wonky.
- I currently have one hanging from my other eyelashes that looks incredibly strange when I don't brush it into place. Aaaagh
4. Pain/darkness.
-About 3 weeks after I originally got lash extensions, I started to notice a dark lining around my left eye. I asked my lash extension technician if this was normal, but she didn't notice anything in particular wrong with them. The pain came from how my naturally long lashes were sore from supporting more weight since they were already had naturally. The root of my lashes was incredibly sore.
5. They aren't cheap or affordable.
-My original set cost almost $200 and 3 week fill-ins are $70. The pricing varies depending on how long you go between fill-ins.
Since I've made a big beauty decision by getting them (and now losing them), I'm excited to get back to my natural lashes! I first started thinking about getting rid of them the other day when I was shopping at one of my favorite beauty stores, Sephora. I came across my absolute favorite mascara, Better Than Sex Mascara. I had a wave of nostalgia come over me when I realized I could easily cancel my appointment and get back to my natural style. So that's what I did!

Overall,
I would recommend getting lash extensions if you have short, stubby lashes that you can't work with, but if you have long lashes like I do, it's really not necessary. Getting lash extensions is something everyone should do at least once in their life because you feel totally glam, but be sure to take into account all of the different aspects of getting them. They do make you look and feel beautiful, but they can be very costly.
Piece of advice:
Do your research! Research who's who in your area and pick the best salon possible. I would recommend choosing a salon that's more expensive if you know that they're safer than the others. The salon I chose was one that I knew was safe, clean, and caring about your lash and eye health. If you're unsure about any of those important qualities, you should go elsewhere.
If you do get them, be sure to post and send pics because I'd love them!
Always be yourself, no matter what. I've chosen to go with what works best for me, which is my natural, long lashes. Above is a picture with my favorite, go-to look: mascaraed lashes!
Look forward to another post coming soon regarding my favorite mascaras and lash boosters that can be a more affordable option if you're not ready to take the lash extension leap.
Thanks for reading! You'll hear from me again soon.
XOXO, Madeline
